Nurse Assessments – Dr. Poon’s Team-Based Care for Women
If you have been referred to Dr. Poon, you may be have an appointment with a Nurse Clinician (Ivy or Kyla) as part of a recently implemented Team-Based Care model. Nurses working with Dr. Poon perform initial detailed assessments (30-45 min, usually telehealth) and may also be involved in implementing a treatment plan. The purpose of this approach is to improve access to care and reduce wait times.
Your initial assessment will be improved by filling out the Female Bladder Symptoms & UTI Detailed Health Questionnaire and Bladder Symptoms Questionnaire.
In addition, once you have complete assessment by the team, there is an optional survey on your experience administered by the Doctors of BC https://checkbox.doctorsofbc.ca/cstc-patient-survey. Completing the survey takes only a few minutes. The results are confidential (not seen by the team) and the information will help develop better ways to deliver specialty care.
Virtual Visits
As many of our patients live outside of the North Vancouver area and due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, we offer telehealth visits for your safety and convenience. To better serve you please have some information ready by the phone prior to your scheduled telehealth visit.
Triage Process & Wait Times
The urologist will triage all referrals based on information received from the referring provider. The following are current estimates:
**Urgent: < 2 weeks
Semi-urgent: < 3 months
Non-urgent: 12-18 months
If your condition has changed since the initial referral, please contact the referring provider to determine if a change in triage status is indicated.
**If you have been referred from the EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT, we will call you with an appointment as soon as the urologist is able to triage the referral, a process that often takes > 48 hours. You will receive a call for an appointment within the appropriate time frame.
